very old stones – what’s lurking in your basement?!

The Healthy Home is a very old house but we only found out recently just HOW old it is. It consists of a small original crofter’s cottage, attached barn which has now been converted and a new building (4 years old) to host my retreats made of reclaimed stone. I thought the cottage was about 3-400 years old but Careto Fourman, the niece of Healthy Home co-founder Morel, has been digging in the cellar for her archeological degree thesis and found evidence that part of the cottage is at least 700 years old, maybe 1500. Wow. Who would have thought?! Here’s Careto working on her thesis and she brought along Brian Hodges, architectural historian from Lancaster University, who is an expert on old building construction techniques.
