Leverage your home – swap it and save money on hotels

Some time ago I was recommended to go try out www.HomeExchange.com (the home swap service featured in the movie The Holiday). Since joining this summer I have entered another world! Wonderful people all over the globe ready to let strangers into their homes and welcome them with open arms (when it is a non-simultaneous exchange). I swapped 5 nights with two hosts who live in Bali and who will at some point stay at my home in London. The first stop was a fabulous villa for 8 in Seminyak owned by a french couple, then we moved on to a another property in a wild, jungle-like location 30 minutes from Ubud. The second couple (a Californian hippie and his Javanese wife who have lived here for years) adopted us into their family for the weekend, and gave us full-board (totally unexpected) along with another couple from San Francisco who turned out to be recently-retired Home Exchange pros travelling the world staying free in people’s homes. Try it folks. Save on hotel bills. Take a few photos of your house, do a good write-up to sell your location and see what happens. Do mention my email address (ginalazenby@mac.com) if you sign up and I’ll get an additional month or so free subscription. I have also set up a swap for my visit to Sydney in February.
