New definition of a Business Woman

Looking at the Women for Women International website (see Feb 15th posting) I came across an inspiring video with a narration by Meryl Streep, called ‘I Am the New Definition of a Business Woman’.  That’s my quest now for us in the developed world so it really caught my attention.  Zainab’s organisation is empowering women in conflict zones to rebuild their lives with many starting their own businesses. They say they are redefining what it means to be a business woman and are gaining respect. They have become stronger and are rebuilding new communities, villages and nations. Being able to buy land means they are educating their children and one woman said this made her feel like a “complete woman”.  It is inspiring to witness what women can do when they have the opportunity.  As the website says: The stories you see and hear are proof that one woman can change anything… many women can change everything.

Coincidentally, that is the conversation we will be having at the event on Int Women’s Day March 8th when we explore what it takes for us to be a NEW Business Woman in the developed world.  The world is changing dramatically, as is business, and we are finding that the game AND the rules are changing. I suggest we come together and agree that we will write the NEW rules for business, and create ones that meet our needs, and those of the planet in a more sustainable way.
